Girls Varsity Soccer vs. V-Districts SGATE ANDERSON

Game Date
May 28, 2015
Score
MULES: 2
V-DISTRICTS @ SGATE ANDERSON: 4

The 2015 Bedford varsity girls soccer season came to an end on Wednesday evening with a 4-2 setback at Belleville in the second round of the MHSAA Tournament.  The Kicking Mules finish with a 6-13-1 record.

Bedford started strong offensive but was unable to get one past the Tiger goalkeeper.

Belleville took a 1-0 lead in the 14th minute, then extended it to 2-0 with a goal eight minutes later.  The Tigers scored once more before Bedford freshman Kate Chuhy netted her second goal of the season with just under three minutes remaining before intermission.  Chuhy's second goal in as many nights came off a restart by junior Sadie Oswald, who's shot was deflected by the Belleville goalkeeper off the crossbar with Chuhy there to head it in.

The Kicking Mules pulled to within 3-2 in the first 100 seconds of the second half as sophomore Kyleigh South put a shot into the top corner off an assist from senior Cara Stang.  With the goal, South tied senior Taya Bailey for the team lead with nine goals.

Belleville scored its final goal on a corner kick play as the first attacker let the ball go through to an awaiting shooter in the 58th minute.

Bedford junior goalkeeper Grace Brown made eight saves, while the Tiger goalkeeper turned aside four shots by the Kicking Mules.

Bedford held a 3-2 edge in corner kicks, but was out-shot 19-14.  The fouls called were seven on Belleville and 11 on Bedford, which included a yellow card as a Bedford midfielder was dribbling up field and a Belleville defender chasing her falls down.  Still not sure why a person who just crossed midfield with the ball and the team trailing by two with less than eight minutes would leave the ball to tackle an opponent as how the center referee interpreted the play.

The Kicking Mules were without Bailey for the second consecutive game due to illness.  The match was the final high school contest for seniors Chelsea Bauders, Erin Jacobs, Cara Stang and Maddie Weiss.
