Bedford 3 SMCC 4 (OT)

In perhaps their most intense game of the season, Bedford dropped a 4-3 thriller to SMCC in the opening game of a two-game series hosted by the Falcons in Monroe.  Josef Molnar was the Mules’ offense leader, scoring two goals and assisting on the third.  Between the pipes, Jacob Smalley turned back 47 of 51 shots.

SMCC jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first period, dominating play with a 19-5 shot advantage.  That score held up until Molnar scored midway through the second period, assisted by Jacob Schulty and Jake Stark.  The Falcons regained their two goal lead with just under 7 seconds remaining in the period.  Late goals can be game breakers, but Bedford came out fast and furious in the third period.

The Mules took advantage of two costly SMCC penalties, scoring just as one was expiring. Molnar from Dale Davis.  Then with just over six minutes left in regulation, Jacob Ansara got the equalizer, assisted by Schulty and Molnar.  The period ended with a 3-3 score, and it only took the Falcons 63 seconds to put the game into their win column, scoring in a scramble in front of the Bedford net.
