The Mules took to the pool at Milan for the SMISL Championship! It was the most normal (minus masks, and some covid protocols) meet that we have had all season. 6 teams spread out in the stands finished up their regular seasons today. Milan finished in 1st with Bedford in 2nd. The competition was exciting.
Micah Scheffer was the top swimmer for Bedford today, as he broke Cameron Craig's ( of Monroe) pool record in the 50 Free with a 21.07. This puts him in top 2 or 3 ranked at D2 state meet. He also broke the 100 Butterfly pool record with a 50.72 (almost 1 second faster than Monroe's Gavin Reddin's record set last season). Micah went on to break our school record in the 100 Free by over 1 second during the lead off swim in the 400 Frelay (46.20) All three of his times were New School Records. Teammate Ian Metter set a new school record in the 100 Breaststroke with a 58.24. This brings the mules up to 5 school records this season when we include Thomas Zoldowski's 100 Backstroke record set earlier in the season.
The team as a whole was on fire with 85% personal bests. Diver, Austin Clise, had an amazing 500 Free today, dropping 20 seconds and scoring for the mules.
I could not be prouder of this team, as we have had a roller coaster of a season with all the covid issues. We have ended our regular season on a high note, for sure.
We look to next week as we prepare 8 of our athletes for the D2 State meet.
Micah Scheffer was named Co -Smisl Swimmer of the year with Andy Dobrzanski from Milan. Both boys set records in their individual races at the meet.
And I was the grateful recipient of the SMISL Coach of the Year which was most unexpected. So, thanks to the other coaches who voted in such a way.
