Bedford ladies slip past Tecumseh in SEC swimming

Last night the Kicking Mules defeated the Tecumseh Indians with a score of 97 to 89. It was a close match throughout the entire meet, with the Mules leading by a margin of only 2 points after the 100 yard freestyle. The ladies of Bedford finished strong to defeat the Indians by a margin of 8 points after narrowly beating Tecumseh the previous Saturday at the SMISL relays.

The night was full of state cuts with the 200 Medley Relay winning the event and going under the state time with a 1:54.00. The relay consisted of senior Lauren Sullivan, junior Allie Steffin, junior Moe Lingle and freshman Kendal Schreder. Sullivan also won the 200 IM with a state qualifying time of 2:17.31. Schreder touched out Tecumseh in the 50 freestyle to bring home a win and Lingle won the 100 butterfly time with a state qualifying cut of 1:01.18. Schreder took second in the 100 freestyle with a time of 54.83. Lingle won the 500 freestyle, followed up by a victory in the 200 freestyle relay of Schreder, Steffin, senior Meegan Smith and senior Laiya Scheffer with a time of 1:47.06. Sullivan and Steffin finished out the meet with victories and state qualifying times in the 100 backstroke and 100 breaststroke, respectively.

The Mules are back in action next Thursday, September 22 at conference rival Monroe at 6:00 pm.
